Having joined the axis cause in June, Italy sent a small detachment of aircraft to the Channel front during August. This composite unit comprising Fiat BR.20 bombers and CR.42 fighters were to last eight days in the fierce fighting, suffering their heaviest defeat at the hands of the Hurricane’s of 257 squadron.
